In 2011, I decided to try and do the 50 Book Challenge (inspired by shelfari.com). See my original 50 Book Challenge post here. However, I was only able to read 18 books in 2011, a far cry from my original goal to read 50. So this year, in 2012, I resolved to double the amount I read last year and do a 38 Book Challenge. What follows is my current list for the year:
1. Forge by Laurie Halse Anderson
2. Matched by Ally Condie
3. Teach Like Your Hair's On Fire by Rafe Esquith
4. Freak the Mighty by Rodman Philbrick
5. Crossed by Ally Condie
6. Great Expectations by Charles Dickens
7. Close to Famous by Joan Bauer
8. How to Breathe Underwater by Julie Orringer
9. The Tiger's Wife by Tea Obreht
10. Persuasion by Jane Austen
11. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl
And, in case you were curious, below is the list of books read in 2011:
1. The Kite Runner by Kahled Hosseini
2. Other People's Children by Lisa Delpit
3. Love in the Time of Cholera by Gabriel Garcia Marquez
4. Honey, Baby, Sweetheart by Deb Caletti
5. Fires in the Bathroom by Kathleen Cushman
6. Peony in Love by Lisa See
7. Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli
8. The Memory Keeper's Daughter by Kim Edwards
9. The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins
10. Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins
11. Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins
12. The Lace Makers of Glenmara by Heather Barbieri
13. I Am the Messenger by Markus Zusak
14. The Help by Kathryn Stockett
15. Gifted by Karey White
16. Breaking Night by Liz Murray
17. Chains by Laurie Halse Anderson

I'd love to hear about your own 50-Book Challenges (or 25-Book, or 100-Book--whatever will make you stretch!). Leave me a comment below, or email me at torrief@gmail.com.
