Elena's Baptism

Yesterday (2/21/10) Elena Antoineta Parada got baptized early in the morning before the meetings started. It was my first baptismal service in the morning, and it was wonderful--there wasńt the usual noise throughout the rest of the chapel or the usual noise of construction and selling going on outside. Only the birds singing and complete silence within. It was beautiful. She was the only member of the immediate family who wasńt a member, so now the family is good to be sealed together in the temple when their son returns home from his mission.
Elena is 29 with 2 kids and is currently going through a pretty bad divorce. Shés probably one of the sweetest, most affectionate people Íve ever met, and was incredibly sincere in her repentance and as she was searching for the answers to her prayers. Hopefully Íll be able to travel back here to see their sealing.

Karaoke Night

Saturday night (2/20/10) we had an activity night in the church where we sang karaoke and had a special dinner. Elena and Tito both came and were big hits in the karaoke.

And the Celebration Continues...

After our zone's birthday celebration, the familia Angulo threw Hermana Beckett another birthday party.
Don't we look awesome in our party hats?
We love the Angulo family. They take such good care of us!

Happy Birthday Hermana Beckett!!

2/15/10: It is Hermana Beckett's birthday today so we had a zone activity to celebrate.
The main activity was a cake eating activity.
It's hard to tell who won and who lost--since all of us have pretty dirty faces....

Valentine Cake

To celebate Valentine's Day we took one of the cake mixes that my friend Chelsee had sent me for my birthday and decided to make our own version of a cake. We cooked the cake mix in a double boiler on the stove because we don't have an oven.
We then made them into little cookies.
They were surprisingly good--but then, it was chocolate so what's not too like?

One Year Celebration!

My one year mission mark hit on January 28th. What could be better than celebrating with a big dish of ice cream?

Have We Changed?

Here I am with Hermanas Poteet and Schmidt in the MTC in Provo.
And again at the CCM in Guatemala.
Now one year later, here we are again. Hermana Schmidt has lost 85 lbs. Doesn't she look great?

Help, Shark!

These "shark busses" down here are so funny.
Here is a picture of our new zone as of the 25th of January

Awesome Baptism

1/23/10: Tulio's baptism was such a sweet experience. His family, who have all been members except for him, have been waiting 20 years for this day.
If this had been the only baptism of my mission, it would have all been worth it.
I love to see families come together in the Gospel.

Marunon Japones

This interesting fruit called marunon japones looks a lot like the "forbidden" fruit in the temple film.
