Life in L1

I haven't posted in a long time, but reading Jill's blog made me want to keep up on mine better. I think it would be a good way for the family to keep tabs on each other.

Today was the last day of classes before Thanksgiving Break and everyone (including me) was feeling antsy and hyper as a result of the break from homework. My fiction writing teacher talked to me today about my latest short story and encouraged me to submit it in the Atlantic Monthly writing contest, which I think I'll do. I won't expect too much, but first place gets 1000 big ones, which would make it possible for me to eat something other than toast and cheese & crackers for every meal. Gotta love the college life.

I've started going swimming with my roommates Jeralyn and Liz in the mornings around 7. We're all hoping to train for a swim meet coming up in January; Jeralyn's coaching us (she's been swimming since sophomore year of high school and is amazing). I've always been an embarrassingly slow swimmer, but Jeralyn says my form looks good and that I might be able to compete with my breastroke (my best stroke so far). Besides being a good form of exercise, swmming is helping us to save significant amounts on our utilities bill because we all shower at the HPER instead of at our house. We also have a goal to see how long we can go without turning on our heat; with the lack of snow, it looks like we'll easily make it until after Christmas Break.

Last week, I went with two of my roommates to "clean the sink" at Angie's (aka, down a huge tub of ice cream). If you are successful, you get a sticker. After what felt like two gallons of ice cream later, we did indeed get the sticker. See the photo for proof.

Life is great here up in Logan; I've been having a ton of fun with all my roommates, and classes are going splendidly. I can't believe how much happier I am now that I've dropped my math major. Now I only have very limited contact with the naturally unsocial engineers (except when they ask me out on dates...hmmm...).

While I'm thinking about it, Happy Thanksgiving on Thursday everyone! Ten things I'm grateful for today:

1-the fact I have Thai chicken (homemade!) waiting for me in the fridge for dinner

2-the vase of fresh roses on our kitchen table (Liz's, not mine, unfortunately)

3-a quiet, peaceful apartment

4-a basketball game to go tonight

5-cute neighbors :)

6-the fact that two of my classes were canceled this morning

7-free access to a swimming pool

8-Romanian chocolate (courtesy of Taylor)

9-America's Next Top Model reruns

10- Jill's blog--it was so much fun to read and see all the pictures, and it motivated me to be better at keeping up on this one!
